Dear Parents and Guardians:
February is our shortest month, but it is a very busy month at IS 52.
Our Title III and Saturday Enrichment programs will continue on February 4th and 11th. These programs provide students with additional ELA and Math support. We encourage our students to take advantage of this opportunity to deepen their knowledge and review what they have been learning in classes.
During this month, Mrs. Vasquez, our Parent Coordinator, and the PA will hold a special breakfast. Topics to discuss include HS selection process and how to help students to prepare for the NYS exams. Computer and Crafts classes will continue to the end of the school year. Please make every effort to attend and learn more while spending some quality time with other member in our school community.
The Art Department is organizing the “Friendship Dance” event which will take place on February 10, 2012 from 6-8pm. If you want your child to attend, he /she must have a teacher’s referral and your signature on her permission slip. Children attending this event must be picked up by a parent no later than 8:00pm.
Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, February 28th. Afternoon conferences are from 1:00pm – 3:10pm and evening conferences are from 5:30pm – 8:00pm. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers again and to find out how your child is progressing. Report cards will be distributed during these conferences. The PA will have snacks and beverages for sale.
Winter vacation is from February 18st – February 26th. Students must return on Feb. 27th. Even though there are no classes, it is still important for your child to read for 30 – 45 minutes every day.

Queridos padres y /o tutores de la EI 52:
Aunque febrero es el mes más corto, hay mucho trabajo que hacer aquí en la E.I. 52.
El programa de Título III y el de Enriquecimiento Académico de los sábados continúan durante el 4 y el 11 febrero. Estos programas proveen ayuda adicional en lectura y matemáticas. Le pedimos que ayude a motivar a su hijo(a) a asistir al programa y aprovechar al máximo esta gran oportunidad para acelerar su aprendizaje.
Durante este mes, la señora Vásquez, nuestra Coordinadora de Padres y la junta de padres ofrecen un desayuno especial. Entre los temas a discutir están la selección de una escuela secundaria y como ayudar a sus hijos a prepararse mejor para los exámenes del estado de Nueva York.
El departamento de arte está organizando una fiesta para celebrar el “día de la Amistad”. Este evento tendrá lugar el 10 de febrero de 2012 – 6-8pm. Si Ud. Desea que su hijo(a) asita, él/ella deberá presentar una recomendación de un(a) maestro(a) y una autorización firmada por Ud. Los estudiantes que asistan a este evento deben ser recogidos por uno de los padres no más tarde de las 8:00pm
Las conferencias de padres y maestros están programadas para el jueves, 17 de febrero. En la tarde, de 1:00 – 3:10pm y la de la noche de 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Esta es una gran oportunidad para conversar nuevamente con los maestros de su hijo(a) y enterarse cómo cual ha sido su progreso. Las libretas de calificaciones serán distribuidas durante estas conferencias.
El receso de invierno comienza el día 18 de febrero hasta el día 26. Los estudiantes regresaran a la escuela el 27 de febrero. Aún cuando no hay clases, es muy importante que su niño(a) lea por lo menos 30 – 45 minutos cada día durante las vacaciones.
